""While Shaina looks forward to her engaging, hands-on Sunday morning classes every week, my husband and I have come to look forward to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of Winchevsky events, and the opportunities to schmooze with our fellow Shule parents."
Sylvia Hunter, MWS parent

Are you looking to strengthen your child’s Jewish roots within a cultural, non-religous context?

Are you in a non-traditional or mixed culture family, and still want Jewishness to be a part of your child’s life?

Is social justice (Tikkun Olam) a value you want your child to learn?

Then have we got a school for you!

Morris Winchevsky School – our secular humanistic Sunday School for SK-Grade 5 students

Toronto's Secular Jewish Community School (TSJCS) hosts three programs designed to provide supplementary Jewish education from 18 months of age through a child's Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah. The Morris Winchevsky School with its unique style of Jewish education forms the core of our approach, spanning Senior Kindergarten through Grade 5.

To keep learning stimulating and focused, students at the Morris Winchevsky School experience classes in 5–week long modules. Each module highlights a different theme and is led in a creative and interactive manner by an expert. Some of our exceptional modular leaders have included: cultural anthropologists Richard Lee and Harriet Rosenberg; social policy advisor Carly Steinman; environmental activist Charles Levkoe; archaeologist David Lipovitch and singer/songwriter Batsheva.

The modular system is designed to meet the needs of your family. You can enroll your child(ren) in all ten of the various modules offered, or you can mix and match – the choice is up to you!

Toronto's Secular Jewish Community School (TSJCS), formerly known as The Morris Winchevsky School, was founded in 1928 by members of the United Jewish People's Order (UJPO). The founders were committed to perpetuating an understanding of the traditions of social justice and humanism and to making secular Jewish life relevant and accessible through a wide variety of cultural, social, and educational programs. (To learn more about our history, please, click here). TSJCS operates its three hosted programs with these same goals.
