Israel In Depth: People, Places, and Ideas

This 5-week experience led by representatives of Hashomer Hatzair, will allow students to explore their relationship to Israel in an educational and engaging way. Tackling hard issues, the module will present a holistic view, in attempting to capture as many different viewpoints as possible. Using art, drama, and games students will learn the basics of Israel’s geography, history. The program is fit for students who have little or no prior knowledge of Israel.

Curriculum Schedule

Week 1 (October 5th, 2008)	Baking Israel - Students will become accustomed to some of the basic geographical sites in Israel through baking a pastry map and answering trivia.
Week 2 (October 19th, 2008)	The Kibbutz Movement - A look at the founding of Israel and the decisions young people were making at that time.
Week 3 (October 26th, 2008)	People & Places - A closer look at some of the types of people living in Israel, where they live, and what they do.
Week 4 (November 2nd, 2008)	Palestinian-Israeli Conflict - A thought-provoking introduction to the complexity of the situation in the Middle East.
Week 5 (November 9th, 2008)	Israel and the Diaspora - What does it mean to be a Jew living outside of Israel? What does it mean to say that Israel is the Jewish homeland?
