THE MORRIS WINCHEVSKY SCHOOL There's more than one way to be Jewish! |
|
""While Shaina looks forward to her engaging, hands-on Sunday morning classes every week, my husband and I have come to look forward to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of Winchevsky events, and the opportunities to schmooze with our fellow Shule parents." |
Module 3: Judaism and Environmental Justice Historically, Jews have had different approaches to the natural world: domination of the earth; stewards of the land; and partnership with the plants and animals. Using an interactive and action-based approach, this module will examine these different approaches focusing each week on a different theme including: food, water, climate change and environmental justice. Module Leaders Airin Stephens is a high school teacher with many years experience educating for social change. Charles Levkoe has a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies. His research interests focus on alternative responses to urban and rural food security issues and consider the role of grassroots organizations, their connection to place and their ability to organize across scales. He has been active in food security and community gardening movements across Canada and is the Urban Agriculture Coordinator at the Stop Community Food Centre. Charles is a former teacher at the Morris Winchevsky School.
