"While Shaina looks forward to her engaging, hands-on Sunday morning classes every week, my husband and I have come to look forward to the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of Winchevsky events, and the opportunities to schmooze with our fellow Shule parents." |
Module 8: After Columbus "discovered" the Americas in 1492, Spain became Europe's leading superpower, and launched the Spanish Inquisition. Their persecution of the Jews would come back to haunt them, as many of these exiled Jews played important roles in the European pirate world, both as financiers and as pirate chiefs. Students will sail to adventure on the Caribbean Sea as they explore this little known but true chapter in Jewish history. Richard Lee is a world-famous cultural anthropologist. He is a Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of Toronto. Lee is also currently researching issues concerning the indigenous people of Botswana and Namibia, particularly their ecology and history. Known best for his work on the Ju'/hoansi, Lee won the 1980 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for his book The !Kung San: Men, Women, and Work in a Foraging Society. Richard is also a member of the School Advisory Committee and the father of a Morris Winchevsky School graduate. Lucah Rosenberg-Lee is a 2002 Morris Winchevsky School graduate, and is currently a University of Toronto student. Curriculum Schedule
